Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune Faces Potential Job Cuts

July 2, 2009: Gannett Co., publisher of the Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune, the Stevens Point Journal, Marshfield News Herald, Wausau Daily Herald and six other Wisconsin community newspapers informed employees of a plan to cut approximately 1,400 from the US Community Publishing Division, which includes Gannetts smaller local dailies. Gannett Co. employs more than 41,000 people nationwide in both print and broadcast divisions. These cuts represents a nearly 3% reduction of the current Gannett workforce. Most of the job cuts and layoffs are scheduled to take effect prior to July 9. Pay cuts for remaining employees are also rumored.
